Our Story
Brains, Behavior, and B Cells
Liz’s Lab was founded in July, 2017 by lab leader, Dr. Elizabeth “Liz” Engler-Chiurazzi. Our team is committed to exploring how the convergence of the nervous and immune systems impacts brain function, mental health, and neurological disease. Employing a variety of scientific techniques, including molecular, cellular, and behavioral approaches, we are hard at work advancing the understanding of how these two complex systems sometimes cooperate and sometimes clash. With these advancements, it is our goal to identify novel therapeutic targets and develop better treatment interventions that simultaneously ease the burden of devastating neurological disorders for patients and reduce the stigma surrounding them. To learn more about our projects, check out the Research tab.
Pursuing this important work enables the training of the next generation of diverse neuroscientists. Indeed, by encouraging our students to ask their questions, and equipping each with valuable intellectual and laboratory skills to find the answers, we empower them on their path of discovery and making their career aspirations a reality.
Finally, we are actively engaged in exciting a love of learning and an interest in brain function among members of the community (see our service tab). It is our hope that by bringing neuroscience education opportunities to the public, we can serve as educators and role models, changing the face of STEM for every aspiring scientist we meet. And through inspiring a lifetime love of learning, we can change the world, one neuron, one brain, and one person at a time.
